When Coll was discussing the mass shooting at the midnight premiere of The Dark Knight Rises in Colorado, I immediately looked up tweets from that night/ morning. The link to these tweets can be found here. When the shooting occurred at 12:47 am, it was far too late to make the newspaper, so witnesses and news crews took to twitter to report the happenings at the Aurora movie theater. One wave of tweets in which Coll discussed was about a supposed 9-year old girl who was "shot" at the theater. One tweet I found read "Woww Someone Just Shot Up This Batman Movie. .I Literally Just Seen A Little Girl Get Carried Out With Bullet Wounds Smh The Nerve Of Ppl." A specific tweet in which Coll mentioned included the word "lifeless body of a 9-year old girl." Lifeless is a word that can have an extremely negative connotation. Was the little girl really dead? Was there even a child hit by the gunshots? How can we trust citizen journalists? Based on this information, my critical question is
Can objective viewpoints and word choice ruin journalistic acts by citizens on Twitter?
