Researching the job opportunities presented by Manpower confirmed many of my predictions, while still leaving me with a few surprises. For my research, I looked up jobs in Madison, WI, Washington, DC, and San Francisco, CA. I predicted that DC would hold the most options, San Francisco the most technologically-dependent, and Madison the least of the two. I found that San Francisco had by far the most options, many of which involved technology skills that are not held by the average applicant. For example, one option called for "BS Computer Science, EE, or equivalent experience" or "Java and .NET development and/or QA experience". It goes on to explain other additional skills that are not "required, but preferred". This position, like many of the San Francisco options, is a permanent offer. The fact that the position calls for quite high-level technological coding skills demonstrates the high-level technological skills required of most of the San Francisco positions offered.

Not surprisingly, most of the job offers in Washington, DC involve less of a technology skill demand (although the demand is certainly there) and more of a political, governmental experience demand. The technology skills, for example, involved web design. One position that was offered multiple times in my results was an offer for a, "User Interface Design Lead". The position calls for abilities in rapid prototyping of web portals and designs, keeping aesthetics and such in mind. These positions are in the context of political campaigns, so most of them are non-permanent, contract positions.

In Madison, the job offers involved minimal technological-adeptness. Most offers were for temporary, office jobs. One example is for a paper processing job for a banking company, or reception work. None were particularly interesting or technology-dependent.
